Wireless Network at AHSL - Tucson & Phoenix

The University supports two WiFi networks and both are available in the Library:

UAWiFi –for UA affiliates only. Requires NetID and computer setup up.

UAPublic - free and open to everyone, no setup necessary.

  • Not as fast as UAWiFi, (256kb limit)
  • Unencrypted
  • Allows library patrons to connect to the Internet WITHOUT using a NetID and Password
  • You will get an “off campus” IP address so you will need to authenticate to access library and other UA resources
  • Currently this is the only access method available for handheld computers (e.g. PDA, WinCe)
  • Restricted to allow only web-browsing and VPN connections.
  • Connect to UAPublic

Steps to set up your laptop (required for UAWiFi)

Preceptors, Community Faculty & Visiting Scholars

  • Access is available to everyone through the UAPublic wireless network
  • For UAWiFi, contact your department/college about getting a NetID and Password.
  • UMC Employees

  • UMC employees are not eligible for a NetID and may access the UAPublic network.

Handhelds, PDAs and smartphones

PDAs and smartphones should have access to UAPublic. However, access to the encrypted UAWiFi network is not available at this point. Campus computing and technology is currently working on this.

Connectivity Problems

  • Intel Proset wireless adapter and configuration program:

    • It is advised that you uninstall the Intel program and use the Windows program (Windows Zero Config) to configure the wireless setting.

  • Some Dell computers with Trumobile wireless adapters

    • WPA2 and WEP settings are swapped. You will need to manually reset the connection. Once you connect o UAWiFi, your system will cache your credentials indefinitely. If you need to change the login, it is required that you remove and re-creat the network definition completely.

  • The AHSL-Tucson Library laptops are not able to connect to UAWiFi.
